Merchant Onboard Policy

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of the Movo platform, including rewards, referral programs, merchant services, and all related features.

Last updated: 5 August 2026

1. Purpose

This policy establishes the mandatory Know-Your-Merchant (KYM) and Merchant Due Diligence (MDD) requirements that all merchants must satisfy before being permitted to sell on the platform. It sets out identity and business verification standards, enhanced controls for high-risk categories, periodic re-verification obligations, and record-keeping requirements, in order to:

  • Prevent onboarding of fraudulent, fictitious, or sanctioned entities;
  • Reduce exposure to money laundering, terrorism financing, and the sale of counterfeit or illicit goods;
  • Comply with applicable Malaysian anti-money laundering law and regulatory guidance; and
  • Protect buyers, brand owners, and the platform's reputation.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all prospective and existing merchants seeking to list or sell products or services on the platform, including individual sellers, registered business sellers, and sellers operating in categories designated as high-risk. It applies from initial onboarding through the entire lifetime of the merchant relationship, including periodic re-verification, ongoing transaction monitoring, and offboarding.

2A. Regulatory Basis

This policy is designed to support compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA) and related guidelines issued by Bank Negara Malaysia, as well as general good-practice standards for e-commerce marketplace KYC/AML programs. Where the platform operates in additional jurisdictions, local regulatory requirements apply in parallel and, where stricter, take precedence.

This document is a business policy framework and does not constitute legal advice. Legal and Compliance teams should review this policy against current AMLA guidelines and any sector-specific regulatory notices before implementation.

3. How It Works

Becoming a merchant on the platform is a simple 5-step process:

Step Action
1 Applicant fills out the online registration form.
2 Movo team reviews the application within 48 hours.
3 Approved → You receive Vendor Dashboard login credentials. Rejected → You'll get a reason. You can resubmit after 7 days with the issues corrected.
4 Once approved, Merchant sets up store profile and bank details.
5 Merchant starts adding products. High-risk categories require additional category documents at signup (see Section 5).

⚠️ Note: If you do not receive a response, make sure that you have submitted all required documents and information. Contact Movo Customer Service if you still don't receive a response.

4. What Documents Do I Need?

Required documents depend on whether you are registering as an individual or a business, and whether you plan to sell in a high-risk category.

Seller Type Documents Needed at Signup
Individual MyKad / Passport copy, selfie verification, bank account verification with your name on the bank statement, proof of non-bankruptcy/bankruptcy search
Business SSM registration certificate, director IC, 3 months' bank statement with Company Name on the bank statement
High-Risk Category (e.g. electronics, luxury goods) All of the above, plus: proof of genuine/authorized supply (invoices, brand authorization or distributor certificate/license), where available, submitted at signup before listing products

5. Selling High-Risk Categories

Categories such as electronics and luxury goods carry a higher risk of counterfeiting and fraud, so they need extra checks — submitted upfront at signup, not after your store goes live:

  • Proof your products are genuine (supplier invoices, brand authorization letter, or distributor certificate)
  • Proof of where your funds/stock come from (bank statements, purchase invoices, supplier agreements)
  • A deeper background check on business owners/directors

Accounts in these categories are reviewed more often and re-verified sooner if ownership or product category changes.
